Albufeira

Albufeira is a coastal city in the southern Algarve region of Portugal. It’s a former fishing village that has become a major holiday destination, with sandy beaches and a busy nightlife strip. Local fishermen now use the modern Albufeira marina, also a base for diving, dolphin-watching and where the boat trips depart. It’s surrounded by candy-colored apartments, with a waterfront promenade.

There are lots of great beaches around Albufeira. Ten minutes drive away is Gale beach (Praia Da Gale) is by far the biggest and the best. With restaurants and bars, cafes and toilets, beach shops and fruit stalls - Gale beach is very popular.

Here are the top five beaches around Albufeira Old Town.

1. Praia da Falésia: Located east of Albufeira, Praia da Falésia is one of the most stunning beaches in the Algarve. It stretches for several kilometres, with golden cliffs, clear waters, and beautiful natural surroundings.

2. Praia dos Pescadores: Also known as Fisherman’s Beach, this is the main beach in Albufeira. It is located right in the heart of the town and offers a lively atmosphere, soft sands, and a range of amenities and water sports activities.

3. Praia de São Rafael: Situated west of Albufeira, Praia de São Rafael is a smaller and more secluded beach. It is famous for its impressive rock formations, crystal-clear waters, and tranquil ambiance. The beach is surrounded by cliffs and offers stunning views.

4. Praia da Oura: Located in the eastern part of Albufeira, Praia da Oura is a popular beach known for its lively atmosphere and vibrant nightlife. It offers a long stretch of golden sand, clear waters, and various beachside bars and restaurants.

5. Praia do Castelo: Situated west of Albufeira, Praia do Castelo is a hidden gem with a more secluded and peaceful setting. It is surrounded by dramatic cliffs and offers beautiful rock formations, clear waters, and a sense of peace.
